Weighted Jumping Lunges with John Heary
Lunges are a great all around exercise for the butt and legs. They will strengthen and condition your glutes, quads, and hamstrings among other leg muscles as well. You must maintain proper form and technique to prevent injury to your lower extremities in particular, the knee. Do not let your knees travel past your toes. This would cause undue stress to the knee that could possibly lead to an injury over time. The progressions include adding weight to the lunge in the form of dumbbells, barbells, or a weighted vest. A plyometric version of the lunge includes adding a jump. Start with bodyweight and progress to a weighted vest over time.
